While I do not suffer from allergies, I have used the this resource for my clients. THere has been quite a bit of useful information that I have been able to pass onto my clients. THere have been ideas about hyperactivity and various other reactions that can occur due to ingredients in foods consumed.

Thank you so much for thinking outside of the box rather than just going the medicine route. I appreciate all of your words, ideas and insights.

Thank you for being here for me. My little boy, since birth has had allergies and not to just food products. His highest allergy is eggs. He can't be around them in our out of the shell. He's also allergic to goat and cows milk, whey, all nuts-----the list just keeps going. I found this site by google. First I cired, then I said a prayer and thanked God for letting me find you. Now, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. My son's allergies are so bad, that at school he has a 1 to 1 aide to keep him safe (alive) while at school.
Keep the info coming my way!

Robyn,

I can't thank you enough for your book. I was embarking on my own food quest, when I stumbled across The Unhealthy Truth at the bookstore. It was exactly what I was looking for! While my children do not have allergies, I was beginning to probe into what was in the foods I was feeding my family.

I am currently reading The Omnivore's Dilemma and again, I'm shocked. As you had also talked about in your book, I had no idea that corn was used in practically everything we eat.

I am astounded that the media has not done more with this topic. The processed foods that we were fed as children simply are not the same processed foods that I have been feeding my girls. Again, thank you so much for having the courage to bring this issue to the forefront.

I just wanted to say I saw the video clip from GMA today and I want to say that dyes and perservatives absolutely play a role in how children behave. By the time my son reached the age of 3 I was ready for a breakdown due to his temperment. He was very hyper and agressive towards his younger sister. Continually wet the bed and wasn't growing at a normal rate had leg cramps and stomach cramps on a regular basis. An acquaintance recommended a book on children's diets (sorry, I can't remember the name). Within a week or two of removing the dyes and preservatives from his diet he was a completely different kid and finally stopped wetting the bed not to mention he grew 3 inches in less than a year after having no growth the year prior.

So don't always believe what the prescription happy doctors have to say. Listen to those of us who have lived through it and seen the difference, try it and decide for yourself.

My oldest son who is now 18, had spent years breaking out in hives and having allergic reactions for "no apparent reason". We had been to doctor after doctor and no one could figure out what was going on. My husband and I started to read about food additives and our toxic environment. We changed the way our family ate and my son's problems cleared up over night.

We had a second son who was brought up with the healthy life style we had incorporated into our family. We had no problems with him until he started school. We'd get reports from the teacher he was acting up in class and they kept trying to pressure us to have him medicated for his "problems". It had dawned on me that the kids are given snacks for good work and behavior. Upon asking the teacher what snacks she was giving him, I found out it was a variety of items loaded with food dyes. It took my husband and I one "experiment" with our son to figure out Red 40 was the direct problem. He is literally a different child when he injests it. Over the years we had told his teachers to please not give him snacks with artificial dyes and preservatives in them --- and they just don't get it. Then they complain when he's having a bad day and want us to medicate him. He is now 11 and he has learned to read labels before he eats things. However he is a kid and sometimes when the entire class is eating Skittles, he just can't resist.

I don't understand how people and companies can think that our bodies are made to process chemicals. We have even discovered that flouride -- which is added to our drinking water --- is nothing more than poison. It is not good for your teeth. Read up on flouride and the history of how we ended up with it in our water and you will be horrified. We have to be advocates for our children and ourselves. The government and the FDA is not on our sides, it's on corporate America's side.

Congrats for bringing this matters to light! In the late 90's I had a horrible allergy attack and fortunately, my friend was with me when that happened. My friend called 911 and that saved me. To make the story short the doctors pinpointed that I am to stay away from aspirins, NSAIDS drugs and Yellow #5 (Tartrazine). Believe me, I was in denial that time, because I was 50 years old and never had any problems before my first attack and kept eating any foods that had Yellow #5. Well, unfortunately, within 3 weeks, I got another allergy attack!
Its been 9 years since I changed my eating habits right after my second attack and avoiding all the foods that contains yellow #5. It is time consuming to read those ingredients labels before I buy! I want to thank you for your efforts. I pray and let me know if need any help.

Robin,

Congrats on the GMA spot! Thank you for helping to raise awareness of the dreadful effects of dyes and additives on our children. My 4 yr old was diagnosed with a "severe" case of ADHD, and we were urged to place him on stimulant medication. Instead, we stripped him off of dyes and additives and the results were AMAZING. Unfortunately, it is so hard for the untrained caregiver to recognize all of the different places dyes can hide, so virtually every time he comes back from a visit with his grandparents, we deal with four days of Red 40 aftershocks.

Please know that the work you are doing means the world to families like ours. If there is any way we (or my company) can support your efforts, please let us know!

I just saw your story on Good Morning America. Kudos to you for becoming an activist on behalf our kids! I am convinced that processed foods and the additives they contain are killing all of us, and our kids are the most vulnerable. My son is almost 18 and has been suffering from migraine headaches and stomach problems for about 5 years. We tried all kinds of medications and he only got worse! His school work was suffering due to all the absences and I was at my wit's end. In desperation, I changed his diet...no easy task with a teenage boy. I have eliminated as much processed food as possible and am using as many organic foods as I can. He has dramatically improved....not only have the headaches become rare, but he is sleeping better, has less stomach problems, and his schoolwork has greatly improved. He was resistant to the changes at first, but he cannot argue with the results and now feels so much better, he has become very cooperative. Beware of MSG...it is in almost everything processed and is disguised under many other names, including being listed simply as "natural flavoring". I will be checking your site frequently to keep informed. Thanks!
